Superintendent's Message for August 2024

Hello, Chargers!!

Welcome to the start of another wonderful school year.  We look forward to serving your child and you in the 2024-25 school year.  

This summer, our entire school staff started early.  The day after the 2023-24 school year ended, they participated in a district-wide professional development initiative, demonstrating our collective effort to enhance our students’ experiences.  We participated in new learning conducted by Capturing Kids Hearts which is a culture-changing philosophy to enhance our students' educational experience.   We left that professional development learning experience excited and eager to incorporate and use what we have learned.

This week, our district leadership team, building leadership teams, and the administrative staff are attending professional development sessions on how to be a high-performing professional learning community.  Specifically, this training addresses how to enhance and focus our teacher’s collaborations.  During our early-release professional development sessions on Wednesday afternoons, we utilize these collaboration teams to enhance and improve our instructional practices and students' learning.  

Information Update

Legislative updates  

During last year's legislative session, they changed the open enrollment deadlines. The Department of Education released and displayed the specific information on its website.  Now, there are several deadlines with specific information and dates. I have attached a portion below for your convenience but please refer to their webpage for all the information concerning this change.  Open Enrollment Deadline Changes

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union updates are linked below. The document highlights that the Golf and tennis seasons will be separated starting in the 2025-26 school year.  

IHSAA & IGHSAU Updates

New entry for Board meetings 

Next month we will start using the North door (Pre School entrance) as the public entrance for our school board meetings.  This change is to help our visitors have an entrance that is accessible for everyone.

Celebrations

Our softball and baseball teams had a wonderful summer. Both teams played in sub-state games on the same night.  The baseball team advanced to the State tournament and was defeated in the semi-final game during a well fought contest with Underwood.  Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a successful season.

We are excited to start the 2024-25 school year and look forward to serving you and your children.  Here are some important dates coming up for you to mark your calendars.  You will be receiving more information from your child’s school soon.
