Superintendent's Message for August 2023

SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE AUGUST 2023

Greetings!

We are excited to start another school year and serve you and your child. Thanks for trusting us and letting us serve you both.  We appreciate it.

Registration for all families and students was held on August 7th at the Middle School.  If you missed this date, have no fear. We will still get you registered and ready for the first day of school.  Please stop by the school where your child will be attending.  Doing this before the first day of school is very important to get you and your child off to a good start.  The first day of school should be an exciting day for both of you, and we don’t want it to be bogged down with the necessary paperwork we need to be completed to start the year with us officially.

Our summer here at school has been hectic, I am sure, much like yours.  We had four major construction projects going on this summer, which will make our student’s school experience better.  We have updated Reynold’s field with turf, paint, and other necessary improvements that have been put on the back burner.  We also are installing a new playground at Van Allen that not only the students can utilize but the entire community during off hours.  Finally, we have installed air conditioning in both elementary gyms and lunchrooms.  This will now make our facilities completely air-conditioned, which will be nice in the fall and spring for students, staff, community, and our visitors.

I like to brag about the success of our students in my messages, and this summer, we had plenty to brag about.  Our softball and baseball teams excelled and had terrific seasons - great job, coaches! We had plenty of individual athletes selected to all-conference, district, and state teams.  For baseball in the SCC conference, 1st Team selections were Aidan Mundt, Kaleb Offenburger, Kasyn Paige, and Mason Smith.  Honorable Mention selections were Brock Oxenreider, Blane Wallace, and Logan Shore.  We had four players selected to the 2A All-District team this year.  Kaleb Offenburger and Aidan Mundt were the first team and Kasyn Paige and Mason Smith were the second team.

The Charger softball also fared well with individual honors.1st Team SCC Conference selections were Layne Braby and Haddon Anderson. The second team was Addie McGee and Honorable Mention was Sydney Cain, Bailey McGee, and Abby Doran. Layne and Haddie were also selected to the All-Distrcit SE Region team and third team All-State team.

Also, want to give a HUGE shout-out to Sydney Cain, who was selected as the Lucas County Fair Queen and will represent our county at the Iowa State Fair later this month.

Congratulations to everyone that took advantage of participating in extracurricular events this summer, including those who showed their exhibits at the fair. To stay up to date with our extracurricular activities, visit www.southcentralconf.org. This site contains the most up-to-date schedules for our school.  It contains athletic schedules, band and chorus concerts, academic team events, speeches, etc.

Lastly, our district is launching a new program called Parent Square.  This system is designed to improve communication between parents and our school.  It is a one-stop shop for all communication PK-12 grades.  We will use it for all our weather-related messages as well as being able to attach documents to streamline communication for students and parents.  This program will allow parents to get regular updates and messages when it works for them. Some parents like messages instantly, while others would rather have them at times that work better, like after work.  Regardless of how you want to personalize your account, all emergency messages will go out immediately. Be looking for more information in the days to come.
