Superintendent's Message for December 2022
ECEMBER 2022 MESSAGE
Greetings Charger Nation!
I wanted you to know my philosophy and protocol when making a decision about school delays and cancellations during inclement weather conditions. My practice is to make the decision in the morning as to whether we should have school or not. This being said, if the decision can be made earlier I will do so in order for families to make plans. The process I use is to work with area Superintendents, my transportation staff, and use weather radar and forecast information to make the best possible decision for our district. As you know, Iowa weather patterns change quickly so plan accordingly. My philosophy is that parents have the final decision to send their children to school. As a parent, you know your child’s driving ability and the roads they travel on a regular basis. There is nobody better to make this decision than you and we will support your decision when it comes to the safety of your child.
More success in the area of academics, athletics, and activities was had by our students at CCSD. Volleyball saw three athletes make the SCC all-conference honorable mention team. They were Addie McGee, Grace Watkins, and Tammera Alexander. In football, the Chargers had five athletes named to the all-district team. 1st team was Aidan Mundt and Ryder McGee and honorable mention all-district players were Brock Oxenreider, Chase Willis, and Mason Smith. Our students also excelled in Charger’s annual academic tournament held on November 12th. The team members finished 3rd out of 12 teams. Our school was represented well by Ethan Werts, AJ Burbridge, Mallory Logan, Elaine Prose, and Mariah D’Attilio. Finally, the CCHS Music Department performed the musical, James and the Giant Peach. The photo below captured everyone involved in the performances. The main characters were Kelly Morgan, Isaac Sundquist, Maddi Howell, Samantha Zuel, Maddix Larrington, Leif Sundquist, McKinleigh Milledge, Grace Watkins, Delaney Caudill, and Mara Forst. It was a huge success. Congratulations to these students and everyone in our school participating in extracurricular events that represent our school. Finally, our Charger cross-country boys team had four 1st team all conference runners. They were Blane Wallace, Connor Dixson, Bradley Hobbs, and David Crabb.
Chariton girls wrestling program competed in the BGM tournament--the first competition for the Chargers after Iowa sanctioned girls wrestling at the end of last year. Chariton had two girls compete: Leah Chandler and Kaylee Hedrick. Chandler was the Champion at #125 and Hedrick was 4th at #135. Congratulations to these Chargers for being in a class of “first ever”!
As we enter a new season of activities I would like to thank all the students that participated and represented our school. Thanks also to all the coaches, sponsors, teachers, and parents for all you have done to get our school year off to a great start.
I look forward to the next chapter in our 2022-2023 school year.
GO CHARGERS!!! THINK BIG !!!! #LBE
