Welcome to Columbus Elementary! We are located at 1215 Linden Avenue in Chariton. Our school serves students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Columbus is home to approximately 300 students living in Chariton and surrounding rural communities. Chariton Preschool is located at 140 E. Albia Road and serves approximately 70 students.
Columbus Elementary believes in the success of ALL students. Our dedicated staff strives to live out our mission of “Developing a solid foundation to create citizens who are lifelong learners.” We believe that foundational academic, social, and emotional skills are the building blocks for future success, in school and in life.
At Columbus, we strive to offer a personalized, high-quality educational experience for every child. We offer additional support services in the areas of Title 1 Reading, Title 1 Math, Special Education, Extended Learning, and English as a Second Language. We place a strong emphasis on meeting the needs of all students through differentiated instruction and research-based practices.
We also care about educating the whole child. We are a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. We believe in being proactive and positive by explicitly modeling, practicing, and reinforcing behavior expectations. We also believe that acknowledging students when they demonstrate those expectations will promote continued positive behavior and help maintain an environment where students feel safe, cared about, and can do their very best!
